You walk in the kitchen
Heated imprints are burnt
into the cold ceramic tiles
reminding me of a calf’s skin
after the farmers branding iron
but this shape is toned
and delicate
no forced hard edges
are seared
upon a soft cattled back
These squares cushion
and leave a trace visible
until the fridge door opens

The background design for this blog is based on a 1962 Czeckoslovakian road map. I have a fascination with maps and layout of information. Maps present a frozen snapshot in time, much like a poem. Maps don't offer up directions, they show many routes we could take. The colours in this map and the tree like structures reminded me of Mondrian’s art.
