Respirator in one hand
overnight bag in the other
filtering fluid movement
through a lollop
and palpitation
You enter the open bay
wheels parked between the lines
Time has beaten the life out of you
All those exhausted cars
and balding tyres
those steps once taken in twos
now evade the fittest fitter
I watch the receptionist check you in
and the doctor entrenched with spotlights
spark up his welding gear
goggles pulled down
operating to make you road worthy
for another year
overnight bag in the other
filtering fluid movement
through a lollop
and palpitation
You enter the open bay
wheels parked between the lines
Time has beaten the life out of you
All those exhausted cars
and balding tyres
those steps once taken in twos
now evade the fittest fitter
I watch the receptionist check you in
and the doctor entrenched with spotlights
spark up his welding gear
goggles pulled down
operating to make you road worthy
for another year
I do hope the operation is as successful as your use of words here Baz.
ReplyDeleteHi Dolly, yeah my dad's made a swift recovery. It's amazing what doctors can do these days.
ReplyDeleteOh I didn't realise it was your Dad, wish him well and I do hope he will be up and painting again really soon :)
ReplyDeleteI wrote most of this last month, Dolly, at the time of his op. and only finished it recently. Since I originally wrote it he's made a recovery :) and is back at his easel discovering the joys of 1 & 2 point perspective. Thanks for your kind wishes.
